Graciela (gra. cee. ella) secretly likes when cars zoom past her street blasting obnoxiously loud hispanic music from their windows because it takes her back home to the hectic streets of San Juan for a few seconds. She was born in the city of Chicago, spent her childhood in Orlando and when her dad was getting annoyed by the dominance of English over Spanish in her day to day speech, he decided it was time to go back home.
Inspired endlessly by the people and love around her,
Graciela is an artist, writer and educator that hopes to serve the communities she is part of by amplifying their stories but also, assisting in the creation of them. At Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she is pursuing a BFA in Illustration with a concentration in Literary Arts Studies, constantly pushing the bounds of visual and literary narrative. Graciela has worked with Storey Publishing, Providence CityArts for Youth, Project Open Door, 826LA, and the RISD Museum; where she respectively collaborates with diverse teams in designing educational material as well as creating community centric programming. En secreto, a Graciela (gra. cee. ella), le gusta cuando los carros pasan a toda velocidad por su calle y hacen sonar música hispana odiosamente ruidosa desde sus ventanas porque la lleva de regreso a su casa en las calles del San Juan por unos segundos. Ella nació en la ciudad de Chicago, pasó su infancia en Orlando y cuando su papá se comenzó a molestar por el dominio del inglés sobre el español en su habla diario, decidió que era hora de volver a casa.
Inspirada infinitamente por las personas y amor que la rodean, Graciela es una artista, escritora y educadora que aspira servir a las comunidades de las que forma parte amplificando sus historias, pero también asistiendo en la creación de ellas. En Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), está cursando un BFA en Ilustración con especialización en Estudios de Artes Literarias, constantemente empujando los limites de narrativa visual y literaria. Graciela ha trabajado con Storey Publishing, Providence CityArts for Youth, Project Open Door, 826LA, y el RISD Museum; donde colaboró respectivamente con diversos equipos en el diseño de material educativo y creando programación centrada en la comunidad. ¡Es un placer conocerte!
